Pretty much everyone does this, I’m pretty sure Cannondale was doing this with their alu bikes years ago. Like dmc458 says, it’s all marketing.
fuji, cannondale, pinarello all have been doing this for many years. pinarello was the first but even the midrange fuji 3.0 acr has an asymetrical frame.
like everything else, its all about marketing
