Is it worth buying an electric bike?

I don’t drive and soon I will not be able to get to work by public transport anymore – my shifts start very early. I am reasonably fit and would need to cycle 8 miles on flat road, at a time when there is very little traffic. Does having an electric bike significantly increase speed/make cycling easier?
If you really cant drive, dont see why not. Just lock it up safely. Theyre expensive.
Scooters and mopeds are nice too. Do you have any driving experience at least?
I have a honda 70-since 1981 Still starts evert time and enjoy it very much. (am 70 years old.) Do not know about electric bikes but with that distance it sounds really good. Ask a dealer how fast it will go, and how long the battery lasts. If the answers are wrong look into a scooter. lots of luck.
