Need advise on getting electric bike that goes at least 20 mph, 40 mile range?

What electric bike should I get?
I need it to go at least 20 mph and at least 40 mile range, I don’t mind doing some pedaling to get long range. Also, I want it to be super silent.
Is it better to convert a standard bike or to get an already assembled electric bike?
What should I expect to pay for this?

Thanks.

in the UK electric bikes are legally limited to 14mph; don’t bother converting an existing bike. £1000+ will get something good, the cheap ones are over weight dogs.
P.S. if you don’t mind pedalling then why not just buy a bike, it’s a sight ‘greener’ than a bike containing heavy metal based batteries and that need mains power to recharge them!

You want something that probably does not exist. On the other hand, if you don’t mind pedaling, it is possible to buy a real bicycle that will give you the performance you want. You will just have to pedal all the time

i think that is beyond both the speed and power range of current electrics

unless maybe you pay about what a used car cost – $2000

    gas is another story
it would be cheap, smelly, noisy, but fast and long range

if you don;t mind pedaling, get a real bike and some exercise

You will need to get a kit as most pre-assembled ebikes wont go over 20mph.

you can do this for about $1500 and your bike. this would be easy on a recumbent.
