    @shank270291

I’m sure that could be made, but why would anyone want that? It would take more energy from the bicyclist to load the batteries than you’d get energy from them to the motor, plus the motor + batteries probably add 10+ kilograms of weight to the bike. Useless!

very nice! I like it a lot

  3. nandansho says:

I want one I want one how do i buy it?… I wanna pass those snarky pro lycra wearing bikers on an up hill.

  4. 2006kmfdm says:

Where Can i get this kind of bike ?

  5. fairyheli2 says:

seriously, in America this is news.. we sell electric bikes in shops here in England

  6. dacci545 says:

I wonder how fast and far he could go if he put an engine in the back as well and doubled the batteries?

  7. ronnysoeberg says:

Always find it funny how americans moan about gas prices. In norway the price for one gallon = $7.50 And no, we don’t earn more than twice as much as americans.

Gotta give cred to this guy for ditching cars and going green though :) Commendable.

  8. shank270291 says:

can we have an electric bike which is not plug in and battery charges when the
cycle is driven by cyclist only using an alternator or small generator .

  9. jaymoore299 says:

@colombianguyyo No it’s not the same thing. The car would absorb most of the force of the impact. With a bike, you are the one absorbing the impact.

  10. colombianguyyo says:

    @jaymoore299
that’s like saying you won’t drive a car because someone will hit you
You just have to be alert at all times.

  11. fairyheli2 says:

I am 13 and I am going to attempt to use scrap parts to convert my bike to a hybrid

  12. homelessanimal says:

Michael could you tell me a bit more about your battery setup and accompanying recharger? How would you approach it given more recent battery technology? Thanks, D

  13. henik9 says:

Yeah that’s the only thing holding me back is getting run over by some idiot.

  14. henik9 says:

    He said about 35mph.

  15. jaymoore299 says:

The only apprehension I have with riding one is with the dangers of riding a bike in the streets. There are a lot of bad drivers as well as pot holes, there are just too many potential life ending hazards out there.

  16. LordLaharl says:

I wonder what is his bike’s top speed.

  17. HYDROPODSBOD says:

Wizard upload, thanks. wow ! 120 miles in one trip ? How many times did you have to stop and re-charge the batterries..?

Do you know if you can charge the batterries using a solar panel ?

  18. stonerj0e says:

they only go 10 miles though ! you need at least 20Ah batteries (very heavy) to get anywhere far …

  19. BL8DRUNN3R says:

    ima do that

My Husband rides a E-Bike. It’s 500WATT front hub motor with 36Volt-12AH battery. He loves it, he spent around $600 for the whole thing making it. He rides it everyday and it saves him a lot on gas. He works on it once a week for a hour. Just to making sure the PSI and everything else is fine. E-Bikes are like cars, you take care of them, it takes care of you. Don’t blame the things you ride/drive. Blame the person controlling it.

  21. ear12861 says:

I am in no way trying to make electric bikes look bad because I love mine and absolutely love the idea. I tried getting friends and family to use them as well but they kinda think i’m weird using it. To each his own. I had to purchase very strong tires because I popped two of them. At higher speeds its hard to avoid road debris that you wouldnt even see on the sidewalk. One day I did try to avoid debris and the more durable tires have less traction so in the rain it just slid out from under me.

  22. upcycle says:

Regarding wiping out, that is more of an issue of safe riding skills. You might want to consider taking a bicycle safety certification course.
The only exception that may validate the issues you describe is if you used old friction drive technology without with or without a brake lever cut off switch. Those are definitely less safe, they definitely would wear the tires our. And the brakes could be worn more rapidly if the system does not have a brake lever cut off switch.

  23. upcycle says:

It would be helpful if you give more data to support and clarify your claims. According to your description, one can percieve your added costs of maintenance are a result of riding the bicycle more per year. Tires and brakes would not wear our more per mile. Theyt would not wear out any faster than anyone else riding the same bike at same speeds/conditions as a bike without an electric hub motor system.

  24. upcycle says:

    thanks for your comment.

  25. ear12861 says:

I own a slightly less powerful electric bike and took it to work a few times which is 20 miles each way. Brakes, the chain, tires, and spokes get worn out so much faster than on a normal bike. I’ve also wiped out and at 20mph thats no fun. My point is that the bikes require more maintenance costs than this video portrays. Yes it saves lots of money if you have a bike made out of parts that never get worn out. For short trips these bikes are great.
