Its because they think lefty is the way to go and they don’t prioritize headshok anymore

If you need a rebuild, Mendon Cyclesmith in NY is the place to send your Headshok. Fast turn-around, great pricing, very knowledgable, super service.

I would either switch the fork for a Lefty or a Fatty, assuming of course you can find a Fatty. Not that the Lefty forks are not without problems, there is a recall on the 2007 Lefty SLR2 forks.

Great information, although I am really happy I didn’t go with the Headshok fork.

I have a 1996 F600 with the DD50, and it works great. It has a spring instead of air, and retired it from off road use and use it now for street-urban riding. Works great absorbing road irregularities and broken pavement and cracks. Haven’t had a single problem with it! They ride on 88 needle bearings just like the new Lefty’s do, and it’s very smooth and can take one hell of a side loading as well, where bushings on other forks tend to “bind up” when digging it into a turn.

yeh – my bike shop says the lefty is very reliable and the head shop is absolute crap. they service canyon ranch bikes which don’t really get ridden off-road and the headshock fails even under that kind of usage. terrible… and cannondale doesn’t seem to do anything to fix it. sucks.

This is why the lefty is a better fork. I bought a 2006 F800 with a lefty and every year and a half I take it to the shop to have a small valve inside replaced and the bearings regreased. Cannondale rep knows his shit when he built my fork back up. Comes into the shop every monday and can rebuild my fork in a hour. Coming up on another overhaul pretty soon.

dude i got an F3 2009 and i seven months i had it serviced 6 times! either it leaked oil or just blew out wtf!

  9. mimmymimmymim says:

Yeah i hear that about the DLR 80. Mine basically blended itself one ride, and i ended up with shock guts falling out into the boot. It was 8 months old, Road use only. I upgraded to a lefty carbon, Now there’s a good fork IMO, Does require regular maintainace though. (R.I.P Cannondale USA.)

I have a f300 Cannondale it came with a oil dampening headshock p-bone fork ……after having to have it serviced about all the time……I finally converted to 1 1/18 using an fsa fat pig headset and put on a simple rockshox judy tt and have had absolutely no problems..plus there are more stems to choose from on an 1 1/8 rather than 1.5.. I love the frame but the headshock had to go..

Seems like a lot of work. I have a cannondale but I dont understand the whole headshok fad thing. I dont know its just me I think having an actual suspension fork is so much mor useful.

  12. ftpaddict says:

    Worth a try!

Watch out for the ol’ Rock Shox faulty part: leaky gaskets. Easy to replace.

  13. bradtube1 says:

Actually… one bike shop owner told me Rock Shox have been quite reliable and their service is excellent. I’ll have to try that next… when I get a 29′er. :-)

  14. ftpaddict says:

I have a Rock Shox Dart and Tora, and so far they’ve been holding out just fine. I use them daily and am quite aggressive. I’ve not once used lockout, though.

  15. bradtube1 says:

I tried that a few times and Manitou Forks didn’t last any longer and neither did my Fox Fork and NEITHER one of them locked out 100%. I ride a lot of dirt roads as well as trails and the 100% lockout on the Cannondale Forks is why I keep coming back to Cannondale.

  16. ftpaddict says:

Question: Why keep buying replacements if they’re so poor? Why not buy a standard suspension fork that’ll last you way more?

  17. bradtube1 says:

Yep – once a year like clockwork for me too! I think I paid about $200 for a backup cartridge.

  18. tuliofuentes says:

I also have the same fork (DLR 80) and it has failed twice, once a year like clockwork.First time the air capsule failed and it took 8 weeks to get it back!It didn`t cost me a dime although I would have rather payed for it if it meant getting it sooner.
Now the damping dial freezed. Fortunately I can still ride it while I wait for the replacement since it´s my only mountainbike and racing season has started.
¿How much did the replacement cartridge cost?

Geez, how many bikes do you have? Great video
