what are some of the better brands of mountain bikes that you can pick up used for a decent price?

hoping to find a “better than store brand” bike used for around $300 or less what kind of brands should I be looking for?

    Any of the shop brand bikes will be fine. If the Schwinn, Mongoose, or Diamondback do not have it on their web site it’s a department store quality bike. Measure your inseam from your crotch to the floor and use 59% of that for the frame size. Find something local so you can try it out and inspect the bike before you buy.     Trek, Gary Fisher, Kona, GT, Specialized, Giant, Diamond Back.

    I would not recommend a scwhin or mongoose or stuff like that because it will only cause you trouble they are to heavy a the drivetrain componnts are not ass good ass they should.
    I recomend a trek 4500 (its the one i used to have when i started doing mountain biking), gary fisher Tassajara, GT Avalanche 2.0, cannondale, Giant boulder.
