it depends on you price range, some brands make better low end, cheaper bike better then other companys. the main companys that make good bikes however are:
santa cruz
giant
GT
cannondale
trek
mongoose-only top end bikes
transition
specialized
tommac
nicolai
ellesworth
foes
turner
norco
cove
ironhorse
it all depends on how much you want to spend and what bike best suits you, what parts do you want and what bike do you feel comfortable on,one thing is you should only buy bikes from proper bike shops. they are safer and will last you longer.

hey dude it all depends on your liking and how much you are willing to spend. I know a brand of handmade bikes that are called “Engin” bikes these are custom made to fit the buyer and have a cost upwards of 7000 dollars. I suggest if you want to buy a bike go to the local bike shop and maybe spend 300 dollars on a decent bike (not walmart that stuff in junk). Good not so pricy bikes are, specialized, trek, ellesworth (my personal favorite), and gary fisher. be a bit more specific with your question. There are about 100 differnt bike brands that are good. have fun!!!
Kona makes good mtn bikes. So does Marin.

For what budget, and for what do you want your bike? Some bikes makers specialize in one type, some make some pretty good light hardtails or full suspensions for XC, while others go into the burlier side of riding.
