What is the purpose of a facing tool (for mountain bikes)?

I know this is an expensive tool with 1 purpose. How do I determine if I need this for my new frame or not?

    A facing tool is used to ream and face the head tube mostly. It’s price is usually associated with its quality (e.g. you need an expensive one to face a titanium frame). In order to decide if you need this tool or not, first of all you should find out what is your bike’s frame. Since light frames cost more, try to remember what you paid for it and then try lifting it on your shoulder (standard mountain bike move). Usually, a facing tool is not a typical tool you can find a bike tool kit, so check these sources before deciding:
